The vineyards of La Colli Martani DOC are located from Bettona to Massa Martana and the area has been historically important for wine, since the Etruscan era and here you can visit Wineries Colli Martani. The environmental conditions of the area as well as the vineyard setup and its management, allow to reach the optimal maturation index, defined for white grapes.
For red wines, in addition to what has already been said for whites, the management and control of malolactic fermentation and the introduction of a maturation phase in wood and subsequent finishing in the bottle. The territory also creates the conditions for the production of the sparkling wine type, as part of the vineyards are at altitudes above 400 meters, with conditions that allow the values and shades of acidity, sugar content and aromas typical of this type to be maintained. Even passito wines have favourable climatic conditions for their production as the months of September and the beginning of October, with their temperate climate, allow for good pre-drying of the grapes on the plant, which is then completed in suitable premises.

The basic Colli Martani White is based on Trebbiano, which with Grechetto is the emblematic grape of almost all Umbrian white wines.
The Colli Martani Red is instead based on a blend of Sangiovese grapes (at least 50%) and Montepulciano. As for the white varieties, these two vines of the basic red wine also have their typologies vinified in purity, as well as for Merlot.
The standard aging period for red wines in the versions with the mention riserva is 24 months. A typology of the Colli Martani DOC worthy of attention is the Grechetto di Todi.
The Grechetto di Todi represents a subspecies of Grechetto, which takes its name from the municipality of Todi southwest of the Colli Martani. Its low yields mean concentrated wines. The Grechetto di Todi is not vinified exclusively in purity, but also to add structure and richness to the other whites of the DOC Colli Martani.
