Amelia DOC (formerly Colli Amerini DOC) is a wine designation from southern Umbria based on the town and municipality of Amelia in the western province of Terni and here do Wine Tasting Narni & Amelia. The area is historically famous for its extra virgin olive oil and the wines of this region have been in the background of olive oil production for many years. The DOC Amelia refers to various types of wines (“Bianco”, “Rosso”, “Rosso Riserva”, “Grechetto”, “Ciliegiolo”, “Ciliegiolo Riserva”, “Rosato”, “Novello”, “Malvasia”, “Merlot”, “Merlot Riserva”, “Sangiovese”, “Sangiovese Riserva”, “Vin Santo“ and “Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice”). All red wines have modest acidity, while for white wines the modest acidity is accompanied by a more or less intense straw yellow color.
The exceptions are Vin Santo, with an amber yellow color due to aging, and Vin Santo Occhio di Pernice, characterized by an intense pink to pale pink color, both sharing a dry to sweet, harmonious and velvety flavor. In flavor, all wines have normal acidity, a barely perceptible bitterness, little astringency, good structure, which contribute to their taste balance.
The denomination Narni IGT
represents one of the most important wine-growing areas in the Umbria region. The denomination Narni IGT includes the provinces of Terni and was created in 1995. The wines of the denomination Narni IGT are mainly based on the Verdello grape variety.
