The province of Mantova is located in the south-east of Lombardy, between Veneto and Emilia Romagna, with a territory whose shape resembles a right-angled triangle and where you can do wine tasting Mantova. Here the territory is mainly flat, with a hilly area to the north that fades towards the Po Valley. To the east, however, it is slightly undulating while the plain near the Po, the Oltrepò mantovano, is completely flat. The territory suited to viticulture in the province of Mantova is extremely varied, with two very distinct wine-growing areas, the hilly one and the Oltrepò mantovano.
In the hilly area, renowned for both still wines and sparkling wines and passito wines, sees the use of vines such as Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot Grigio, in the Garda DOC and Garda Colli Mantovani DOC denominations. Other important denomination of the province of Mantova is the Lambrusco Mantovano DOC. Characterized by two distinct production sub-areas, the Lambrusco Viadanese, with fuller and more full-bodied wines, and the Lambrusco dell’Oltrepò Mantovano, which instead denotes greater lightness and fragrance.
